What the world is saying about Linspire Five-0

"It is hands down the best beginning distro on the market. Period."
- Review from MadPenguin.org

Our servers have finally caught their breath from the launch of Linspire Five-0 last week. Thousands of people downloaded Five-0 from Linspire and thousands more used our P2P overflow, which delivered about 3 terabytes of data. If you wanted to wait for some of the lines to subside before grabbing Five-0, now would be a great time to buy it and download it!

Last week I mentioned that our new release was the first Linux for the mainstream. This week I thought it would be interesting for you to hear from other people about what they thought about Five-0. I asked actual Linspire users to send us their comments along with screen shots of what they thought made Linspire special. We have also included press reviews.

Outstanding new features in Linspire as voted on by users: (click thumbnail to see larger screenshot)

MailMinder & Reminders - Most people organize their day around email and these great new services lets you send email reminders. With MailMinder you can select a message to be auto-resent to you at a specific time in the future.

Lsongs - A terrific music manager with the first integrated music store for Linux users. You can buy music and add it to your computer with a single click. In addition a new "sync" features makes it easy to keep your music library organized across all your computers so you'll always have your music.

WiFi - Linspire works with many 802.11g wireless cards and has a spiffy new control panel that makes it a snap to locate a wireless network and switch profiles for home and for work.

"Plug and Play" - Digital cameras, hard disks, DVD drives, or just about any USB drive can be plugged in and will appear on the desktop all with great new icons!

VPN - Business users can connect to remote computers or to the home office using VPN which is now point and shoot easy!

Marble Blast Gold - A $20 bonus game comes with every copy of Linspire.

Virus Protection - Although Linux is immune to the plague which attacks Microsoft Windows, better safe than sorry. Linspire users have VirusSafe, an integrated Linux program they can install with one click.

Internet Quotes from Linspire users:

"Five-0 makes using a computer fun again." - Jonathan S., Oakdale, Tennessee

"You really owe it to yourself and your computer to give Linspire 5.0 a try... you just might be amazed at the difference one little CD-ROM can make in your entire computer using experience. My only remaining question is, isn't this how using a computer *should* be?" - Mike G., Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas

"I was satisfied with Linspire 4.5. I am THRILLED with Linspire 5.0. It is easier to use. Everything just feels right. It is beautiful to look at. My kids are perfectly happy with Linspire and I never had to teach them a thing about it. They caught on right away." - John W., Chaffee, Missouri

"After 20 years in computing, I have never seen an Operating System so stable, easy to use and attractive. Linspire 5.0 is a winner." - Dan L., Bountville, Tennessee

"I've tried Fedora Cores 2 and 3, Mandrake 9.2 - 10.1, Xandros 3.0 Deluxe, Suse 9.1 and Mephis 3.3. on a swappable HD. But, I found myself always plugging in my primary HD with Linspire 4.5 and now 5.0 the most. Why? Because L 5 just works! Some folks love an OS that you have to at times jump through hoops to get things in synch and workable. I just want stuff to work, so I can be productive and have fun. Yes, L 5 is simple and yet robust!" - John S., Tucson, Arizona

"Five-0 is dead sexy. It is the light at the end of the tunnel. Something that actually does what I want it to do." - Gareth Loosle, Salt Lake City, Utah

"When you see your next blue screen of death, say to yourself "It doesn't have to be this way." Then try Linspire 5 and you'll never go back to being trapped inside windows and gates." - Guy T., Alberta, Canada

"Linspire 5 is fast to install and use, beautiful to look at, virus free, and well supported. I know many non-profit clients I have worked for who would have liked this OS to have been around long ago. It is affordable in many ways. Look at all the software that comes with it using CNR. To me it is the most Bang-for-the-Bucks! And - it's going to get better." - Rob M., Gainesville, Florida

"It's so nice to be able to just turn on my computer and have it work like I want it to." - Deb., Connecticut, USA

"Five-0 has justly earned the title 'The World's Easiest Desktop Linux'. Just click and run and have some fun! Make the change to Linspire Five-0 today and put the fun back into your computing!" - Bob L., Dorset, England

"I no longer feel that I am learning how to use my OS, Linspire 5.0 gave me a true sense of ownership over my computer. That ownership gives me a freedom I didn't know I was missing. I shocked many of my friends when I sold my Mac this afternoon and stopped saving for a G5." - Patrick G., Bolingbrook, Illinois

"Linspire 5.0 comes with all the applications I need already installed: word processing, spreadsheet, (all Office compatible), browser, email, and a snappy desktop that's a snap to use and customize. Linspire 5.0 doesn't deliver a few things that I grew to expect from my last operating system: a hefty price tag, virus of the week, pop-up spam, spyware, and random crashes." - Peter van der Linden, Los Altos, California

"I believe I'm now sitting at the controls of a computer running the world's most powerful OS." - Bryon P., Wisconsin

Press Quotes:
From MadPenguin.org
:

"(...)This has to be the easiest Linux distro I've ever seen, including everything from installation right down to every day use. Hands down this is the easiest... and that has value all in itself doesn't it? The applications are organized well, appropriately named, and I have to admit the developers chose an excellent compliment all together.

They've spent a lot of time on the overall look and feel of this release and it really shows. Everything has a consistent feel across the board.

The bottom line is this: If you know someone who either is interested in trying Linux for the first time, or who might just be tired of the spyware, viruses, popups, etc. then
Linspire is the best remedy I can recommend at this time. It is hands down the best beginning distro on the market. Period." Read the full review

From the The Danville (Ky.) Advocate Messenger:

"March 16, 2005, was a great day for desktop Linux because Linspire Five-0 made its official debut. Linspire has made great leaps in making Linux an easy, comfortable and economical solution for the average computer user." Read the full review

From DistroWatch.com:

"Linspire (formerly LindowsOS) is already a well-known name on the Linux distribution scene, but the new version represents a substantial step forward. Linspire 5.0 is a very pretty distribution with a clear message that a substantial amount of work has gone into the product's usability features." Read the full review
