Guest Starring Glen Kowalchuk

This week, we have a special guest writer for Michael's Minute. He didn't know he was going to be the author when he wrote to me, but after I read his message I thought all of you might be interested in his experience so I got his permission to post his email.

But before we get to that, we have a special gift for everyone on the Michael's Minute mailing list. If you've never seen LindowsOS up close and personal, now's your chance because we've made a fantastic demo! Best of all, it's totally free and works on any computer including Microsoft Windows computers and won't change anything on your existing computer, so give it a try!

Now on with the guest Minute:

Subject: Encore Lindows Presentation
Date: 2/26/03

Our Lindows v3.1 presentation last week at the CECM (Computer Education Coordinators of Manitoba) meeting was a hit! Content filtering and virus software were #1!

The audience was comprised of school administrators, teachers and computer techs. A good mix of tech & non-techs. No one had seen Lindows before!

To start the presentation we have two audience volunteers come up to the front to install Lindows and Windows on two PCs.

How hard is Linux? Who is going to re-learn another OS? How long does it take to start using it? These were the questions people were asking. The race was to see who would be the first teacher to surf the net, send an email and print to a local network printer?

At 9:00am, the teachers got ready to click their mice, CD's inserted, PC's powered up and started booting from CD. 15 minutes later Lindows was surfing the net and browsing for the network printer.. This included 5 minutes to listen to your great new Overview...

The balance of the morning the crowd circled around with Q&A on Lindows applications, Click & Run and what was available in the Click & Run warehouse.

The presentation was such a hit they asked if I could do an encore presentation at the next provincial meeting on May 22,23rd.

The focus will be on how easy it is to integrate Lindows into a school network comprised of Windows servers and what type of school applications are now available on Lindows. Student profiles, drivers for printers/scanners/etc, educational applications etc.

I would really appreciate some help from your guys in this area as the next audience will include a lot more school administrators/teachers who want to see the available applications.

Glen, thanks for doing the demonstration, we think LindowsOS is a great solution for schools. We appreciate your getting the word out for us! And for anyone who hasn't seen seen LindowsOS yet, here's your chance --check out the demo now!

As always, thanks for your support and if you haven't yet, check out some of the new things from Lindows.com, like SurfSafe, VirusSafe, LindowsOS for just $49, the Lindows.com Education program or the 2.9 lb. $799 Lindows Mobile PC (watch the review of the Lindows Mobile PC on TechTV).
