Gizmo5

Gizmo5 was a VoIP startup founded in April 2003 to build a VoIP platform and directory (we call it a dial tone) on which any hardware or software developer could offer free VoIP service.

The company partnered with web communities, universities, telcos and hardware manufacturers around the world to extend and strengthen its VoIP platform. Gizmo5's service incorporated all the key elements of VoIP service including:

  • Directory Services
  • NAT Traversal
  • Firmware
  • Softphones
  • Auto Provisioning
  • Online Account Management
  • Online Dial tone Management
  • Global Datacenters
  • Peering
  • Open source Support
  • PSTN Gateway
  • Account Features (Voicemail, etc)
  • Support for VXML-based Voice Applications
  • SIP and PSTN Network Peering
Gizmo5 was aquired by Google in November of 2009.
