Steve Jobs displays iPhones during product introductions. I wanted to do the same to demo MP3tunes. Disappointingly, Apple has blocked all such applications from the App Store. Without access to software this functionality is not possible.
To accomplish displaying an iPhone on screen I had to jailbreak the device. The copyright office recently ruled that jailbreaking is legal. But for most people it's too complex to be practical. This is why I recommend people consider Android — which has an App Store that allows all programs that are accurately described and don't do harm.
The benefits of device freedom are real. I recently returned from a trip where I used my Android phone's portable wifi hotspot feature to save hundreds of dollars. The same function is technically possible with an iPhone but such software is banned from the App Store. I have huge admiration for Jobs' brilliant mind, but I reject the closed controlled world he advocates. I choose freedom.
