Apple and Google are engaging in a battle royale over smartphones. Apple has their 'walled orchard' where only i-devices can play your music. Google's Android is more open. MP3tunes is doing family counseling so consumers can mix and match products from both.
The initiative is called 'Buy Anywhere, Listen Everywhere.' You can buy songs from Android and play them on iPhone/iTouch, or buy from iTunes and listen on Android — without ever cabling devices to a PC, as everything happens wirelessly through the MP3tunes cloud.
Ideally users should choose the best products and stores and use them interchangeably. At a July 4th BBQ I bought Peter Frampton songs on my Android phone and minutes later had them blasting from a Logitech net radio. It's the freedom consumers deserve.
