Youtube Wins - MP3tunes (and Apple?) Cheer

YouTube prevailed in their billion dollar battle with Viacom who accused them of copyright infringement. Here's why others should cheer this legal development.

The DMCA protects responsible net companies from copyright liability. All of Viacom's arguments about why YouTube wasn't protected were soundly rejected — that YouTube does replication and transmittal, that YouTube didn't remove repeat infringers, that YouTube received financial benefit from infringing activity.

For MP3tunes: EMI's arguments parallel Viacom's against YouTube. Since we're in the same courthouse, we can now reference the YouTube ruling in our case. After about 3 years we're nearly at a stage where the Judge gets an opportunity to hand down a ruling. EMI has consistently asked for delays but the delay has not shaken our resolve.

Hunting for the X-File Ghost

AI will soon rule the world. It will decide if you paid your taxes, qualify for a mortgage, whether your kid is admitted to university, if someone is eligible for parole, if you've been naughty on social media, etc. EVERYTHING. But what happens if it's WRONG? Here's an unbelievable and ominous situation where a cybersecurity company publishes a report stating an American company was part of a Chinese cybercriminal organization. The story spread around the world. One enormous problem: the software they claim as evidence doesn't exist, but nobody bothered to research it. No news site. No security companies. Nobody. Well, I decided to research it, and here's my results.
