The digital music business has seen some crazy ideas over the last decade. Here's my list:
Madison Project: IBM's set-top-box scheme to sell CDs for $20 that customers had to print themselves. Secretly Installing Software: Sony put software on 100+ CDs that secretly installed copy protection, triggering recalls and class action lawsuits. Suing To Outlaw Portable MP3 Players: The RIAA sued Diamond Multimedia to block the first portable MP3 player. The courts upheld its legality. DRM Wrapped P2P Services: SpiralFrog and Qtrax raised tens of millions of dollars selling DRM-locked tracks that wouldn't play in iTunes or on most devices. Embedding Credit Card Numbers in MP3 Files: One major label asked a company to embed purchaser's credit card numbers in every song file sold.
