An insidious new plot to wrestle control of your personal music is underway. Lala entices music fans by offering to 'fuse' their library 'with a massive licensed catalog.' What's not obvious: once uploaded, Lala controls what you can do with your own music. No downloading, no mobile phone, no syncing. Your music will eventually vanish because no company lasts forever.
The reason for the lockdown is that Lala got licenses and tens of millions of dollars from the major labels. As part of this deal with the devil, Lala was forced to add restrictions blocking commonplace digital music activities. Record labels believe they should be paid for every download, and again for listening on mobile phones.
I will not sell the consumer out. At MP3tunes the cornerstone is the consumer's right to use their media any way they like for personal needs. This position does not endear MP3tunes with record labels — which is the reason they are suing us.
