CES 2009 Highlights: Music Everywhere, NextGen TV, 3D

I typically attend the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. This year attendance was down but there were plenty of products and trends to get excited about.

Music Everywhere: Clarion's touch screen MiND device will load your music collection to your car directly from the Internet. New net radios from Acoustic Research include the ARIR600i ($199) with an iPod dock and integration with online music lockers.

TV - Mind Control: Hitachi showed gesture-based TV control without any controller — not quite mind control but getting close. Samsung and Toshiba were showing Yahoo TV Widgets as an overlay on your TV picture.

In 3D: Sony and other TV manufacturers were showing ultra-realistic 3D video. Nvidia showed 3D Vision glasses for gaming. Shapeways demonstrated 3D printing.

The future is coming — instant, connected, always-on, and personalized.

Hunting for the X-File Ghost

AI will soon rule the world. It will decide if you paid your taxes, qualify for a mortgage, whether your kid is admitted to university, if someone is eligible for parole, if you've been naughty on social media, etc. EVERYTHING. But what happens if it's WRONG? Here's an unbelievable and ominous situation where a cybersecurity company publishes a report stating an American company was part of a Chinese cybercriminal organization. The story spread around the world. One enormous problem: the software they claim as evidence doesn't exist, but nobody bothered to research it. No news site. No security companies. Nobody. Well, I decided to research it, and here's my results.
