Desktop Linux will suit most users very well today and will save them big dollars. Anyone using their computer for email, IM, web browsing, word processing, or spreadsheets should try LindowsOS today. There are still some holes though.
Software: Streaming video support for Linux is still lacking. Game titles are fewer than for Windows. Availability: Retail stores are not yet offering Linux computers outside Canada, and top tier vendors like Dell, Compaq and Gateway are not offering it either (much of the holdback is financial pressure from Microsoft).
You can help improve availability by calling Compaq at 1-888-999-4747 and asking for a LindowsOS option. If even a fraction of you call in, it sends a loud and clear message that consumers want a choice. Desktop Linux has made remarkable strides in the last 18 months. I'm confident a year from now it will have made equally impressive strides in these remaining areas.
