A reporter came by Lindows.com offices and said he didn't think he could use LindowsOS because his office used Microsoft Word .doc files. I turned on the computer, clicked Click-N-Run, installed OpenOffice, typed a sentence, and saved it as Microsoft Word format. He was amazed. Like many reporters, he assumed Linux was only for servers.
For Linux to become a driving force in desktop computing, it has to overcome two myths: 1) That Linux is too hard to install (annihilated — LindowsOS installs in under 5 minutes). 2) That Linux software can't read Microsoft formats (wrong — OpenOffice reads Word, Excel and PowerPoint; Evolution reads Outlook; GIMP works like Photoshop).
Do the math: for $499 including all software, LindowsOS users save more than $800 compared to a similarly equipped Windows system.
