The Desk Theory

Remember when every house had just one television? Today, it's not uncommon for families to have multiple televisions. The PC is poised to experience the same phenomenon. The tipping point will be when a PC is cheaper than the desk it sits on.

As prices fall, PCs are moving from one-per-person big-ticket items to common appliances. The average price of a PC was $814 last year. Between 1996 and 2001 PCs experienced an average annual drop of $211. Tomorrow's teenager will ask for a 'chat computer' for IM in their bedroom, just as the generation before them pled for a telephone.

Artificially high prices for software is the one obstacle preventing this trend from truly exploding. LindowsOS addresses this by offering an affordable product well-suited for a cost-conscious business or a 13-year-old's bedroom. SP2 will be released next week, installing in under 5 minutes alongside Windows 98.

Hunting for the X-File Ghost

AI will soon rule the world. It will decide if you paid your taxes, qualify for a mortgage, whether your kid is admitted to university, if someone is eligible for parole, if you've been naughty on social media, etc. EVERYTHING. But what happens if it's WRONG? Here's an unbelievable and ominous situation where a cybersecurity company publishes a report stating an American company was part of a Chinese cybercriminal organization. The story spread around the world. One enormous problem: the software they claim as evidence doesn't exist, but nobody bothered to research it. No news site. No security companies. Nobody. Well, I decided to research it, and here's my results.
