I just returned from LinuxWorld in San Francisco. There were big companies there who've realized Linux will impact their businesses in a meaningful way. Disappointingly, virtually all were focused on servers, not desktop computers.
Desktop Linux is like gold on the moon. There's tremendous value if you can figure out how to get there. LinuxWorld has always been about teaching people how to build their own rocket ship. Most people don't have the time or skills for such an undertaking.
To bring Linux to the desktop, we need to make it accessible to earthbound humans in a point-and-click manner. In February next year, Lindows.com will host the first Linux Desktop Summit in San Diego. Companies dedicated to making Linux viable on the desktop will come together to showcase their efforts.
