Imagine an Etch-A-Sketch size computer on the front of your refrigerator. Anytime you want movie times, sports scores, or email, you'll have a battery-operated, wirelessly-networked computer ready. This is what the tablet computer is all about. We've been working on a tablet running LindowsOS near $500.
My views: 1) Tablets need to be close to $500 — anything higher will simply be a novelty. Newly announced tablets are debuting at $2,000-$3,000. 2) Tablets will not replace desktops or laptops — they will supplement them. 3) Handwriting recognition won't work reliably enough to be practical — handwriting has gotten sloppier as keyboard use has increased. 4) Even if handwriting recognition were perfected, people would still prefer keyboards. People like keyboards. They're efficient.
