Imagine a computer virus that secretly attaches itself to one of the most popular software programs. Imagine none of the major antivirus programs would detect it. Imagine once installed, it could alter anything on your computer without your consent. This week, Microsoft Office 2003 will be released on the world. I call the dangerous software buried inside 'MO3.'
Microsoft is making certain Microsoft Office 2003 files unreadable by all older versions of Office AND all competing office suites, including StarOffice. This will force users of older versions to buy new software, and force everyone who wants to communicate with Office 2003 users to also buy Office 2003.
Protect yourself: Do not purchase and install Microsoft Office 2003. If you need a new office suite, check out the solid and affordable StarOffice 7.0 which runs on Windows or Linux for just $50. Encourage those around you not to purchase Microsoft Office as well — one infection will quickly grow.
