My Movie of the Year

The penguin is the unofficial mascot for Linux, and it got me thinking about the global community of open source programmers — all those rockhoppers. Thousands of developers for the kernel, Debian, KDE, Mozilla, OpenOffice and hundreds of other software teams make LindowsOS possible.

At MP3.com, thousands of artists provided music and we paid them more than $10 million in royalties. In a similar manner, Lindows.com needs to grow a positive relationship with the developers that enable our business. Today we're kicking off a program with KDE to make LindowsOS software available to their developers at no cost. All major versions will be free to open source developers. We see this as a first step in growing a symbiotic relationship.

Oh, and my nominee for best movie of the year: 'Winged Migration.' Don't be confused by the documentary designation — this is a great movie.

Hunting for the X-File Ghost

AI will soon rule the world. It will decide if you paid your taxes, qualify for a mortgage, whether your kid is admitted to university, if someone is eligible for parole, if you've been naughty on social media, etc. EVERYTHING. But what happens if it's WRONG? Here's an unbelievable and ominous situation where a cybersecurity company publishes a report stating an American company was part of a Chinese cybercriminal organization. The story spread around the world. One enormous problem: the software they claim as evidence doesn't exist, but nobody bothered to research it. No news site. No security companies. Nobody. Well, I decided to research it, and here's my results.
